Chopped-Fiber is the standard material used in the construction of the carbon-ceramic discs found on many mass-produced performance vehicles. This material consists of carbon-fiber cut into short strands and mixed with a resin. The end result is a satisfactory product produced from a moulded process.
In contrast, continuous fiber material is produced via a machining process that results in both higher strength and significantly higher thermal conductivity. It's made from layers of Poly-Acrylic Nitrile (PAN) cloth, a carbon-fiber precursor, that are laid over each other and needled together to produce a matrix structure. The thermal conductivity of ST's material is typically 3 times that of the chopped fiber material. This is the reason OE's seeking maximum performance, including every Koenigsegg platform from the CCR to the Jesko, have gravitated to ST's product for more than 10 years.
